Tesco Ireland signs €3 million contract with Celtic Pure

Thursday 16th May, 2019

We were delighted to announce at our annual supplier conference today in Dublin that we have signed up to a new partnership with Irish supplier, Monaghan-based Celtic Pure, who will supply over 2 million five-litre “Drumlin Hills” Tesco water bottles in a deal worth €3 million over the coming two years.

Celtic Pure Irish Spring is one of Ireland’s fastest growing businesses, employing 75 people in Corcreagh, Co. Monaghan. Owned and managed by the McEneaney family, the company has nearly doubled in size since 2017, growing its production from 80 million litres of water to 150 million litres. This growth has been led by the company’s investment in automation technologies, while maintaining its workforce.

The water from these springs has been used by the McEneaney family for well over 200 years and today the family-run Celtic Pure company operates its state-of-the-art bottling plant close to the original family spring, which now produces over 120 million bottles a year.

Joe Manning, Commercial Director, Tesco Ireland, said: “Celtic Pure’s growth story is a testament to its innovative business approach and growing strength as a brand and we’re delighted to be stocking this product in our 151 stores nationwide.  We believe the ‘Drumlin Hills’ Tesco brand product will be an extremely popular offering, complementing the range of all Irish sourced water that our customers know and love.”

“Our partnership with Celtic Pure, a successful Irish family business, brings together two key attributes of which we’re very proud at Tesco; our commitment to supporting Irish suppliers and the provision of high quality, innovative products that customers will enjoy. We look forward to working with the team at Celtic Pure to strengthen our relationship now and into the future.”

Celtic Pure’s co-founder, Padraig McEneaney said: “We’re confident in the quality of our products and our capacity to build our offering for customers like Tesco in the Irish market.  Our long-term focus has been to streamline our systems to ensure we meet our growth expectations and to meet surging customer demand. As CEO I’m fully committed to growing a strong and successful relationship with Tesco over the coming years.”

Supporting local suppliers is very much part of  our business ethos, sourcing from over 480 Irish food and drink suppliers and supports 13,000 Irish farm families. All the fresh beef, pork, lamb and eggs that we sell in Ireland are 100% Irish.

From humble beginnings, the Celtic Pure brand is now the largest independently owned brand and offers a complete range of bottled water to the retail, food service and wholesale sectors to satisfy all tastes for the work, home and play environments. A leading supplier of private label bottled water, Celtic Pure caters for an increasing demand market from the UK and Ireland.
