The Tesco Ireland Charity Partnership gives us and our customers the chance to pool our strengths and support a cause that is close to our hearts. We started our Charity Partnership programme in 2001 and, to date, through the generosity and fundraising of you, our colleagues, customers and their local communities, Tesco Charity of the Year has raised over €17 million for good causes and charities in Ireland.
We are proud to partner with Temple Street Children’s University Hospital, with all money raised by our colleagues and customers being used to buy vital life-saving medical equipment for the 144,000 children from all over Ireland who use the hospital every year.
Our latest national fundraiser, The Great Irish Bake, was held in April 2017
It took place across all our stores, Head Office and the DC during April 7th to 9th. It was an amazing success, raising an incredible €130,000 for the little heroes of Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Thanks to all our colleagues for their wonderful generosity during GIB. Many hands contributed to the success of the event, which was a fantastic example of the difference we can make when we pull together.
So far we’ve raised €3,000,000 together for Temple Street!!

[In October 2014, you voted for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital as our new Charity of the Year partner 2014 – 2016. Our vision for the partnership is to work together to inspire you and our customers to help Temple Street Children’s Hospital save children’s lives by developing the most effective and innovative charity partnership in Ireland.
To kick-start fundraising for the partnership, we held ‘Ireland’s Largest Face Painting Day’ in October 2014, which took place in 146 Tesco stores nationwide. In just 4 hours, we raised an amazing €60,000 by painting happy faces and shaking buckets – a great example of how we can use our scale for good!
The funds raised through our charity partnership are being used specifically to help the children’s hospital to purchase life-saving medical equipment for its patients. Each year Temple Street treats over 145,000 children from across the country and operates the busiest A&E department in Europe.
Our first Charity Partner TV ad!
Christmas is a busy time at Temple Street with hundreds of children being treated at the hospital.
The annual switching on of the Christmas lights at the hospital is a great event for all the children, and this year we wanted to make it bigger and better than ever before, so we created a magical Christmas wonderland within the hospital to surprise and delight those little patients who were spending Christmas away from home.
On the eve of the big switch-on, Tesco colleagues turned the ground floor of Temple Street into an Elf Yourself Workshop, a Magical Christmas Fair and a Magical Movie Theatre. Then on the big day, the children and their parents were invited to make Christmas decorations, meet the elves and post their letters to Santa, taste some delicious Christmas fare and watch a festive film, creating an unforgettable Christmas experience.
Capturing the magic of the event, we created our first ever Charity Partner Christmas TV advert. It was a great success and over 4,000 people text in to pledge donations to Temple Street.
